Mangalore
Bridge is a must Sir, During Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa's visit to Mangalore, elected representatives and politicians failed to highlight the need for a bridge over the Kumaradhara. Whenever there is heavy rain, the Kumaradhara swells inundating low-lying areas, thereby blocking the roads for days. The Deputy Chief Minister has to look into this and allot sufficient funds for the construction of the bridge. J.F. D'Souza, Mangalore. Retain stops Sir, The Railway authorities' decision not to stop Lalbagh and Brindavan Express trains at Krishnarajapuram has affected commuters. When the trial was on for six months, the response was good and it was convenient for passengers bound for K.R. Puram, Indira Nagar, Whitefield and other areas in the eastern parts of city thus avoiding the travel from Cantonment in the reverse direction. Hope the railway authorities will continue the facility. J. Ramakrishnan, Bangalore. Government apathy Sir, The Kanteerava Stadium was modernised with track and indoor games facilities when National Games were held in Bangalore. The sad plight of the stadium today reflects the Government's apathy to track and indoor events for which the facilities in the city are poor. The Kanteerava Stadium is now used mostly for exhibitions and entertainment. How can India shine in the international fora if this is the attention bestowed upon our athletes who do not have a modern facility for training? Would the Chinnaswamy Stadium be used for similar purposes? H.N. Ramakrishna, Bangalore. Readers can also mail their letters at letters.mangalore@ thehindu.co.in
