Bangalore: Pleasant scents have proved to be healers. More people in the city, irrespective of age, are now taking to aromatherapy to relax, especially during weekends.
Aromatherapy, which uses scents of various types to pep up one's mood and improve health , takes a place second to Ayurvedic massage. It helps an individual under stress to strike a positive cord of emotions when he smells different fragrances. According to Ande D' Souza, a spa expert, essential oils and volatile plant oils help in physical and psychological well-being. Hence, it was important to ensure the authenticity of the oil used before taking up aromatherapy, Mr. D' Souza said. Pradeep Guha, a cosmetic shop owner, said that many beauty and skin-care and fragrance products carried "aromatherapy" label. But many products carrying the label contained fragrance or perfume oils or other synthetic ingredients. "It is a must to check the ingredients listed before you make the purchase," he said. According to Naveen, a psychologist, aromatherapy can be used to treat emotional problems. The use of proper essential oils can change one's emotional outlook and help in balance of emotions. The natural chemicals present in the oil react in synergy with each other. These volatile substances, when inhaled, trigger the brain and aid in maintaining emotional balance.
