Rains brings mercury down
The temperature, which rose to 38.7 degrees Celsius during daytime, fell to 28 degrees after showers, accompanied by lightning, lashed the city at around 10 p.m. Met officials said rains were due to upper air cyclonic circulation over North-Western and Central India.
CIC raps Government
Holding the Principal Information Officer (PIO) guilty of not having provided information within the requisite time limits to a batch of applicants who sought the information, the Commission asked the official to show cause within 15 days as to why penalty cannot be imposed on him under Section 20 of the Right To Information Act (RTI).
Constable stabbed by robbers
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when Constable Dharmender Singh was on his way back home. As he reached a bus shelter near India Gate, he heard screams of a woman, later identified as Shashi Bala, shouting for help. He noticed four young men fleeing with a bag. Dharmender gave a chase to the robbers in a bid to catch them. But, two of the robbers were armed with knives. They stabbed him, robbed him of his purse containing his identity card and ATM card and his mobile phone. However, an injured Dharmender did not loose his grip over one of the robbers. He later turned out to be a juvenile. A hunt has been launched for the other three accused. The constable has been discharged from hospital after treatment.
Criminals arrested
According to the police, the Special Staff received a tip-off that some criminals would come to a Dhaula Kuan bus shelter to target passengers leaving for Rajasthan. Subsequently, a team led by Inspector Hoshiyar Singh laid a trap and arrested two of the accused. During interrogation, the accused identified themselves as Dharam Pal Sansi and Vinod Sansi.
Juveniles held
for burglary
The accused had committed burglary at the hardware shop of Rajesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Vijay Enclave, on Thursday night. The area beat constable Sushil Kumar caught them while they were on their way to dispose of the stolen goods. During interrogation, the accused said they were school dropouts.
