KOZHIKODE: The Gayatri Mata Asram, which has its headquarters in Kalpetta in Wayanad district, distributed 25 sewing machines to poor women under its social welfare programme, Gayatri Karunyamela.

Swami Nirupananda Thirtha of Gayatri Mata Asram said here on Monday that the asram had been conducting similar social welfare programmes during the last few years. The beneficiaries of the scheme under which sewing machines were distributed were chosen from 75 applicants. Recently, the asram had distributed rice and clothes to nearly 500 families.
