HYDERABAD: State BJP President N. Indrasena Reddy has demanded a clarification from the Congress Party whether creation of Telangana state was included in the common minimum programme (CMP) of the UPA and if the CPI (M) had approved it. At a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Reddy referred to CPI (M) Politburo Member Sitaram Yechuri's statement that Telangana was not in the CMP. Even RSP leader A. Roy had spoken on the same lines. A clarification from the Congress was necessary as APCC President K. Keshava Rao was silent on this aspect. The BJP leader charged both the Telangana Rashtra Samiti President and Union Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao and AICC general secretary in-chare of AP Digvijay Singh with "cheating" the people by going back on the promise of a separate Telangana made prior to the 2004 Assembly elections. He contended that the Congress had consistently been "duping" the people of Telangana as was evident in 1969, 1972 and in 2004. Mr. Reddy claimed that Congress was not evincing as much interest in carving out a Telangana state as it was keen on revival of the Legislative Council, despite the open support pledged by the BJP. This view gains ground by the party's reluctance to come forward with a bill on Telangana after getting the legislation on the Council passed in Parliament despite opposition by the CPI (M) and Telugu Desam.
