Officials told to speed up works

VIJAYAWADA: Commissioner of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Natarajan Gulzar on Monday asked officials to speed up works pertaining to sanction of individual tap connections and approval of drainage connections in areas with underground drainage facility.

He inspected Srisailam Street, Sundaraiah Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Street, Kagga Subramanyam Street, Yalamanchali Punnaiah Colony and Manyam Gopalaswamy Street in Durgapuram. Reacting to the clogged side drains, he directed officials accompanying him to do the needful to expedite works.

He also went round several places in 44th division along with local corporator P. Gowtham Reddy.

Reacting to the residents' plea for proper roads and side drains besides an early solution to the stagnant drain water in the low-lying area adjacent to the Satyanarayanapuram railway track.

He also wanted the officials to explore the feasibility of converting the main roads into link roads and prepare estimates for works.

Directive to officials

The commissioner then proceeded to the headwater works and inspected the safe drinking water project.

He said the officials should collect water samples from the project at regular intervals and test the chlorine and alum percentage levels in the drinking water.

Warning the officials against any laxity in proper supply of drinking water to the residents, he said care should be taken to ensure a smooth summer for people living on hillocks.

He also wanted them to develop greenery around the Gandhi Park on K.T. Road.
