NIZAMABAD: Telugu Desam Party leaders voiced the view that people were already vexed at the two-year rule of Congress as the Government failed on both welfare and development fronts. People are waiting to teach a lesson to the ruling party in the coming local body elections, they stated. Addressing a joint press conference here on Monday, former Ministers, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Mandava Venkateswar Rao, said there was a mismatch between what the Congress promised the people during electioneering and what it has been doing after coming to power.
Charges denied
Mr. Srinivas Reddy said people were revolting against Congress leaders during the Praja patham programmes and many leaders and party MLAs, scared of incurring public wrath are not stirring out of Hyderabad. People are realising that development and welfare are possible only in TDP's rule, he added. Refuting the reported charges of Congress leaders that TDP has become weak in the district, therefore its leaders were shifting over to Congress, he said that only those who had joined TDP midway, have left. Genuine workers who sailed with the party through thick and thin since its inception were still with the TDP, he confirmed. Mr. Venkateswar Rao said the Congress's administrative polices, which were being exposed one after another, are reflective of its lack of adherence to democracy. The party believes only in hooliganism and autocracy. It has always been out to protect its power by unleashing terror, he alleged. "Our party takes victories or defeats on equal footing and works for the welfare of the people whether it is in power or out of power. Congress does not show as much interest in development and welfare as it shows in filling pockets of its leaders and activists", he observed.
`Tremendous response'
The TDP leaders claimed that the month-long "Palle Palleku" evoked tremendous response among the public. Out of 719 gram panchayats, the party had so far covered 543 and the rest would be covered soon under the programme. Former Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu will arrive here on Tuesday to participate in party programmes and constituency wise reviews on TDP performance. Mr. Srinivas Reddy said Mr. Naidu would stay in the district for two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday. He would arrive here around 10 a.m. and begin reviews from 11 a.m. On the first day he would review the party affairs relating to seven out of the total of nine constituencies. On the following day he would review the remaining two constituencies. The party chief would directly interact with the party workers and leaders. Mr. Reddy said Mr. Naidu would also address the meeting of active members of the party and party frontal organisations at Kamma Sangham Bhavan at Madhavadhara. He said Mr. Naidu was coming here as part of his tours in every district in the wake of launching of "Palle Palleku" party programme. A large number of party workers were expected to attend the meetings, he added. TDP leaders Mandava Venkateswar Rao, V.G. Goud, B. Baga Reddy and A. Sankar were present.
