Good results in Inter exam attributed to corporate colleges

  • Government colleges, too, fare better
  • Overall, Guntur district stands third
  • Girls outbeat boys

VIJAYAWADA: Continuing its supremacy in Intermediate education, Krishna district stood first in the Intermediate second year examination results in the State by registering 74.80 pass percentage this year. Once again, the record performance was attributed to the concentration of the corporate junior colleges in Vijayawada and various towns in the district.

This year's pass percentage was slightly higher than that of last year's 72.46 per cent. In all, 27,044 out of 36,154 who appeared for the final year examination in the district were successful.

As usual, corporate colleges reported a pass percentage of 90 to 99, while the Government colleges also improved their performance.

The fact that the number of private junior colleges was greater than that of Government junior colleges helped the district secure the first position.

    Officials jubilant

Director of Gowtham Educational Institutions (Gudavalli) Chowdary Babu said that the Krishna district had been retaining its supremacy in the results of the Intermediate examination successively for several years. "There is no surprise in this. Many big colleges in the private sector have emanated from here and their concentration naturally yields best results," he added.

Officials of Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) here were jubilant over the better pass percentages recorded by the Government colleges. Administrative officer C. Manohar Reddy said that special efforts made by the Government colleges improved the situation. Extra classes were conducted for students.

In vocational examinations, the district recorded 73.91 pass percentage this year. In all, 697 out of 943 students who appeared for the Intermediate vocational examinations emerged successful.

GUNTUR: Girls fared better than boys in the examination in Guntur district, while the district stood in the third place behind Krishna and Ranga Reddy districts. Performance of students in Government colleges improved significantly this year.

Regional Inspecting Officer G. Rajakumari said that out of 31,228 students appearing for the examination, 20,655 passed out recording an overall pass percentage of 66.14, which was only 65 last year.

    Grades tell a story

While 67.11 per cent of girls passed, only 65.12 per cent of boys were successful. The performance of students in Government colleges improved from 47 per cent last year to 51.17 per cent and that students in the aided colleges improved marginally from 49.6 per cent to 51 per cent. The results in unaided colleges show a decline from 77.8 per cent to 77 per cent this year, she added.
