219 in fray in 14 constituencies in Chennai district

CHENNAI: Sixteen candidates have withdrawn their nominations leaving 219 candidates in the fray for the 14 Assembly constituencies in Chennai district, according to a list released by the District Election Officer for Chennai on Monday.

Monday was the last date for withdrawal of applications.

Thousand Lights with 26 aspirants, after one candidate withdrew, has the maximum number of candidates. Chennai Harbour and Triplicane constituencies have the least number of candidates in fray — 10 each.

The final tally was pasted on notice board of the offices of the relevant returning officers, including at the Chennai Collectorate.

All-party meeting

The District Elections Officer has convened an all-party meeting at the Chennai Corporation marriage hall near Kannappar Thidal for Tuesday afternoon. The party representatives will be updated about the progress of election-related work.
