Placement firm to conduct screening tests

Thiruvananthapuram: A recruitment screening test for fresh graduates of the State will be conducted on May 6 and 7 at the Government Sanskrit College, Thiruvananthapuram and later in Kochi and Kozhikode by a Chennai-based placement company.

The test, being conducted by Techruit, the placement company, in partnership with Raveen Systems Pvt. Ltd, the consultant for "Purnatvam" - the Soft-Skills

Development Program in Government Arts & Science Colleges, would assess students for their proficiency in English, mathematics and mental abilities, a release here said.

The test is of one hour and there is no registration fee. The successful candidates will have to appear for a group discussion later and those selected will be called for a personal interview. Candidates who qualify may possibly secure employment in companies such as Dell, Motorola, Ajuba, e-serve, Intelenet Global, TVS Group, Satyam, Temenos and others.

Soft-skills development for students of various streams is among the 10-point agenda suggested by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for the development of Kerala. The Directorate of Collegiate Education is in the process of implementing the programme across the Government Arts & Science Colleges in Kerala through Keltron. This initiative is to enhance the job potential of the youth and emphasis is given on developing the students of Tier II and Tier III colleges, where hardly any recruiters come for placement.

The company also conducts specific assignments that have been customized to certain client company recruitment needs. The company is targeting to place nearly 12,000 students from all over the country this academic year, the release said. Out of this nearly 50 per cent of the students are targeted to come from Tier II cities and smaller towns. Fresh graduates from Engineering streams and Arts/Science/Management streams can appear. All those passing out in 2006 and 2007 can apply and participate.
