TIRUPATI: The visit of Brij Kishore Gupta, a scientist from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), New Delhi, to Sri Venkateswara zoological park on Tuesday could not have come at a more appropriate time, given the ambitious expansion programmes in the pipeline and the plan to have additional enclosures to accommodate more animals. Mr. Gupta, who was here in connection with the shifting of the TTD's deer park near Mamandurmitta on the way to Tirumala, paid a visit to the zoo this evening. He went around various enclosures and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work in progress. He was especially appreciative of the construction of enclosures to house elephants, porcupines, panthers etc. The scientist advised the zoo officials to prepare a masterplan for the planned development of the zoo during the next 10-15 years. In fact, he referred to a meet of forest officials held recently at Bhubaneshwar, which discussed at length the need for zoological parks to have a masterplan in place.
Animal rescue centre
Mr. Gupta also went around the Animal Rescue Centre (ARC) that houses wild animals rescued from circuses to let them spend the twilight of their life peacefully. The ARC is one of six such facilities in the country. The others are located in Visakhapatnam, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
Entry system
He later inspected the electronically-operated entry system being installed at the gate, akin to the one at Hyderabad zoo. The gate opens with the swiping of a bar-coded ticket at the given slot.
