Staff Reporter

3,100 EVMs will be ready on May 5; 5,000 ballot papers for tendered votes

  • 14,32,000 receive Electors' Photo Identity Card
  • Photographing will go on till April 30 at all 83 centres
  • 40 packets of Oral Rehydration Solution as precaution

ERODE: As many as 2,005 polling stations would be set up in the district, said the district Collector, D. Karthikeyan.

    Transported in lorry

Karthikeyan told reporters on Tuesday that 70 of these polling stations would be set up in forest areas - 57 at Sathyamangalam and the rest at Anthiyur.

As the Guddaiyur polling booth on Burgur hills was an interior area, the polling personnel would transport the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and other polling materials in a lorry.

The 3,100 EVMs for the district would be set ready on May 5 in the presence of election observers, candidates or their authorised agents.

As many as 5,000 ballot papers would be ready for tendered votes. These votes would be kept separately.

    Unwilling

Under Election Rule 46 O, a voter unwilling to cast his vote could register his disinclination in Form 17, available with the presiding officer. The voter should sign the register at the polling booth and would also receive a mark with indelible ink on his finger.

    Extension

As on April 20, of the 18,23,633 voters in the district (9,08,102 men and 9,15,531 women), 14,32,000 had received their Electors' Photo Identity Card. The photographing would go on till April 30 at all the 83 centres, and if need be extended till May 3 or 4, the Collector said.

As a measure of precaution, each polling station would have a pot of water and 40 packets of Oral Rehydration Solution. The polling would be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. without a break.

    Counting

The counting of votes would take place on May 11 at the Institute of Road and Transport Technology Engineering College, Chitode, for Erode, Modakurichi, Vellakoil, Kangeyam, Perundurai, Bhavani and Anthiyur constituencies, and at Gobi Arts and Science College, Gobichettipalayam, for Gobichettipalayam, Bhavanisagar and Sathyamangalam, Mr. Karthikeyan said.
