Traffic diversion for procession

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: In view of the "Theechatti" fire pot procession by devotees from Koniamman Temple on Big Bazaar Street to Dandumariamman Temple on Avanashi Road through the busy streets of the city, there would be traffic diversions on April 26.

A release from the City Police Commissioner, Karan Singha, said that when the processions start from Koniamman Temple, vehicles plying towards Town Hall from Lanka Corner junction would be diverted to Ukkadam via Vincent Road.

Similarly, vehicles entering Oppanakkara Street will be diverted via Vysial Street, Sullivan Street and Gandhipark. No vehicular traffic will be allowed on NH Road from Mill Road Junction and will be diverted via flyover and Goods Shed Road to enter Vincent Road for reaching Ukkadam and nearby areas.

Vehicles entering Vysial Street from Selvapuram will be diverted through Sullivan Street. When the procession reaches NH Road and Oppanakkara Street junction, the traffic on Mill Road will be diverted at "Three Post - Surkrawarpet Junction" and flyover on both sides. All traffic diversions will be lifted when the procession enters the Lingappa Chetty Street. When the procession reaches Brooke Bond Road, traffic will be diverted as and when required. When the procession reaches Dhandumariamman Temple, vehicles from flyover down towards Nanjappa Road and Avanashi Road and HPO Road will be diverted till it enters the temple lane.

A team of traffic police personnel led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. Masilamani, will supervise the arrangements.
