Dharmapuri: Fifty six candidates are in the fray in the five Assembly constituencies in Dharmapuri district for the elections scheduled on May 8.
Rejected
Of the 80 nominations, 24 candidates were either rejected or withdrawn. The Pennagaram assembly segment has the highest number of contestants in Dharmapuri district. Sixteen candidates are in the fray in this segment, including candidates of AIADMK, DMK, BJP, BSP, DMDK, Samajwadi Party and 10 independents. Prominent among them is Muthulakshmi, wife of slain forest brigand Veerappan. The number of contestants in the other Assembly constituencies in Dharmapuri district is as follows: Dharmapuri - 15, Palacode - 11, Morapur - 6 and Harur - 8. In Krishnagiri district, 49 candidates are in the fray for the elections. Of the 81 nominations, the papers of 17 candidates were rejected on various grounds and 15 candidates withdrew their nominations on April 24. Krishnagiri and Bargur Assembly segments have the maximum number of candidates with 11 each followed by nine candidates each in the assembly segments of Thally, Hosur and Kaveripattinam. Election symbols have been allotted to all the contestants, according to press releases from the respective Collectorates.
