KARUR: A total of 49 candidates are finally left in the fray after the last date of withdrawal of nomination for the elections to the four Assembly constituencies in Karur district. For the Aravakurichi constituency, 10 persons including M.A. Khaleelur Rahman (IUML candidate contesting on the rising sun symbol), Monjanur P. Ramasamy (MDMK), S. Manoharan (BJP), A. Basheer Mohammed (DMDK) and six Independents are in the fight. A total of 15 candidates including V. Senthil Balaji (AIADMK), Vasuki Murugesan (DMK), P.K. Mohan (BJP), A.S. Jagannathan (BSP), K. Kanagaraj (Samajwadi Party), A. Ravi (DMDK) and nine Independents are fighting to capture the Karur Assembly constituency. For the Krishnarayapuram (reserved) constituency, P. Kamaraj (DMK), Sasikala Ravi (AIADMK), V. Sivakami (BSP), A. Sivasubramanian (BJP), T. Murugan (DMDK), M. Leelavathi (Independent supported by SWATE women's organisation) and five other independents are contesting. The Kulithalai constituency witnesses a race with 13 contestants including A. Pappa Sundaram (AIADMK), R. Manikkam (DMK), K. Kadirvel (BSP), N.C. Raju (BJP), M. Munusamy (Samajwadi Party), M. Viswantahan (DMDK), R. Kothai (Independent supported by SWATE women's organisation) and six other Independents.
