PRESENTING A MEMENTO: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy with Congress president Sonia Gandhi, at a public meeting in Uppalam, near Pondicherry, on Tuesday.
Pondicherry: Chief Minister N Rangasamy has appealed to the people of Pondicherry to ensure that they gave another opportunity to the Congress so as to continue all welfare measures. Addressing a mammoth meeting here on Tuesday Mr Rangasamy said that he had been able to implement several welfare programmes during last five years because of the guidance and blessings of Sonia Gandhi. He said he was grateful to the people for turning up in such a large number in spite of the hot spell. Sonia Gandhi had come to seek the mandate of the people so that there would be one more successive opportunity for the party to provide a welfare-oriented government. Mr. Rangasamy handed a memento to AICC leader at the rally. Pondicherry PCC president P Shanmugham appealed to the people to ensure that the Congress candidates and its alliance parties emerge victorious in the coming polls. Mr. Shanmugham said that the DPA was a strong and formidable combination. Intensive efforts had gone into the formation of the alliance in Pondicherry. He said that Sonia Gandhi had taken special efforts in this regard. Both Rangasamy and Shanmugham thanked the Central Minister Dayanidhi Maran and also delegates of the AICC present at the rally. The functionaries of the Congress committee A. Gandhiraj, V. Bhaalan and former Chief Minister S Ramassamy and the general secretaries of AICC V Narayanasamy MP, B K Hariprasad and Secretary of the AICC P Sudhakar Reddy were also present.
