GULBARGA: More than 35 organisations, including those of Dalits, and Backward Classes, have joined hands to observe the birth anniversary of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara. Lectures, "vachana sangeetotsava" and cultural programmes are beign planned from April 27 under the aegis of Basava Jayanthi Utsava Samiti. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Basava Samiti chairperson Vilasvati Khuba, Sulpul Math chief Sri Mahant Shivacharya, Basava Kendra chief Shivasharanappa and other leaders of various other communities said the four-day celebrations would be inaugurated on April 27 by District Judge Vishwanth Navadkar in the presence of Sulpul Mutt chief Mahanta Shivacharya, Sri Shivanand Mahaswamigalu of Viraktamutt Sonna, and Sri Siddalinga Shivacharyaru of Samstan Hiremath Aland. Ms. Khuba would preside over the function. Jaraganahalli Shivashankar, Secretary of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, will deliver a lecture. The function will end with "vachana sangeetotsava" by Chaya Bharatnur and Revaiah Swamy Vastradmath. A srama on "Amara Jyothi Akkamahadevi" by Abhinaya Kalavidharu of Bangalore will be held on the day. On the second day, an all community conference will he under the chairmanship of Basavaraj Bhimalli, president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society. Nagendrappa Jambagi of Marata Samiti, Ravindra Kumbhar of Kumbar Gundayya Samaj, Sambanna Holkund of Madhar Channayya Samaj will participate. A drama, "Maha Belaku," by Abhinaya Kalavidharu of Bangalore will be performed. Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh; Minister for Agriculture Marketing Sharanabasappa Dharshanapur, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Mr Mallikarjun Kharge; K.B. Shanappa, Rajya Sabha MP; Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, Lok Sabha MP, and legislators from the district will participate in the celebrations on the final day.
