GULBARGA: Religious heads and members of Basava Samiti on Tuesday extended support to the agitation by Karnataka State Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Government and Semi-Government Daily Wage Workers Association demanding regularisation of services. Religious leaders, including Mahanta Shivacharya of Sulpul Math; Honnakirnagi Math chief Sri Chandragunda Shivacharya; Sri Gurubasava Swamiji of Gaddige Math; and Basava Samiti chairperson Vilasvathi Khuba called on Chandrasekhar Hiremath, honorary president of the association. He has been on an indefinite hunger strike from Monday, demanding regularisation of the services of daily wage employees. The Sulpul Math chief offered his total support to the agitation. He urged the Government to take a humanitarian view regarding the problems of daily wage employees and to regularise their service. He said he would join Mr. Hiremath in the indefinite hunger strike if their demands were not met. A large number of daily wage workers from across the State converged in Gulbarga city in connection with the hunger strike. They took out a procession in the city and submittd to the Deputy Commissioner a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister. The association has decided to observe a bandh in Gulbarga on April 27 in protest against the "nonchalant" attitude of the Government.
