7,015 officials for poll duty in Dindigul

DINDIGUL: Elaborate arrangements have been made for conduct of fair and free elections in all the seven Assembly constituencies in the district. About 7,015 officials would be deployed for poll duty, said Collector, S. Murugaia.

He was addressing a consultative meeting on law and order situation at the collectorate on Tuesday. Poll observers and police officials attended the meeting.

Following instructions from Election Commission, issue of identification cards to all polling officials was in progress.

Special training on operation and rectification of minor repairs in electronic voting machines was imparted to a majority of polling officials.

Special attention should be given for transporting EVMs and other materials, meant for election work, to polling stations.

Stern action would be initiated against persons violating poll code.

Deputy Inspector General of Police A Alexander Mohan, in his special address, said first batch of Central Reserve Police Force had reached Dindigul for poll duty and the second batch special police was expected to reach Dindigul shortly.

Sensitive places were identified in seven constituencies and security beefed up in these areas.

Meanwhile, one of the observers stated that videography that was a must, was not arranged even during scrutiny.

District administration should provide video camera to all election observers.

Election observers Gurdeep Singh (Dindigul constituency), Shobana K. Pattanayak (Athoor), Ashok Kumar Tripathi (Palani), Dharma Rao (Oddanchatram), Diwan Chand (Nilakottai), Bharat Bhushan (Vedasandur) and K.H. Kanojia (Natham) and expenditure observers S. S. Dhakate and Virender Singh took part in the meeting.
