`Basava Shri' award for V.S. Malimath

`Vachana Sahitya Shri' for Leeladevi R. Prasad, Ajai Kumar Singh

Bangalore: Basava Vedike has decided to present the `Basava Shri' award to V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of the Karnataka and Kerala High Courts, and the `Vachana Sahitya Shri' award to Leeladevi R. Prasad, former Minister and author, and Ajai Kumar Singh, Police Commissioner.

According to a press release here on Tuesday, the awards ceremony will be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra on Sunday on the occasion of the Basava Jayanti. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will present the `Basava Shri' award to Dr. Malimath while the former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash will give away the `Vachana Sahitya Shri' award to Ms. Prasad and Dr. Singh.

Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda will release the Basava Shri special bulletin on the occasion. Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math will preside over the function. Ranganath Mishra, former Supreme Court judge, and V. Somanna, former MLA, are expected to participate.

The vedike has been honouring eminent personalities with the `Basava Shri' award since 1996.
