K. Harshakumar Gowda, ex-MLA, passes away

K. Harshakumar Gowda

MYSORE: The former MLA K. Harshakumar Gowda died of a heart attack at a hospital in Bangalore on Tuesday.

Mr. Harshakumar Gowda, 59, was a diabetic and had been ailing for some time. His right leg was amputated recently after gangrene set in. He died at 7 a.m. at Manipal Hospital. He leaves his wife, Komala, and sons Hemanth Kumar and Anil Kumar.

The last rites will be performed at the crematorium at Harishchandra Ghat here on Wednesday morning, family sources said.

Mr. Harshakumar Gowda, a Congressman, represented the Chamaraja Assembly constituency in Mysore from 1989 to 1994. He was an active campaigner for the State's rights in the Cauvery water dispute and was the convener of the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samiti.

Several politicians have mourned the death of the former MLA. They included the former Ministers H. Vishwanath and H.S. Mahadev Prasad.
