Congressmen arrested at Shahdol

BHOPAL: The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader, L.K. Advani, started his Bharat Suraksha Yatra from Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

Mr. Advani left Raipur and landed at the Shahdol air-strip shortly after12 noon. Starting his road journey from Shahdol, Mr. Advani had brief stop-overs at Umaria and Katni. After a night halt at Jabalpur, he would leave for Bhopal on Wednesday.

The Congress workers have announced that they would show black flags and oppose Mr. Advani and his yatra throughout Madhya Pradesh. About 50 Congressmen, who were protesting against Mr. Advani's yatra were arrested at Shahdol. The police have been asked to maintain tight security and close vigil on elements trying to block the yatra.

The State BJP president, Satyanarain Jatia, said the Congressmen, instead of protesting on the road, should now show some restraint.
