Minority panel's suggestions criticised

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The Karnataka State Anjuman-e-Madrasa has condemned the reported recommendation of the State Minorities Commission that Urdu medium schools be closed and that Urdu be taught as one of the languages in Kannada medium schools.

Reacting to the reported remark by Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy while addressing a function here recently, honorary president of the Karnataka State Anjuman-e-Madrasa Amjad Hussain Hafiji in a press release said the recommendation would be detrimental to the interest of Muslim students.

He said his organisation would oppose the recommendation and added that by making such a recommendation, Chairman of the commission Mir Azeez Ahmed had displayed lack of concern towards the plight of Muslims, as the commission was constituted for the social and economic welfare of the Muslim community.

Mr. Hafiji urged the State Government to reject the recommendations of the commission and maintain status quo as far as its policy for the minorities institutions was concerned.
