Gram panchayat polls likely in August

State Election Commission may issue notification on June 1

HYDERABAD: Elections to gram panchayats are likely to be held in the first week of August while polls for zilla parishads, mandal parishads, ZP territorial constituencies and MP territorial constituencies will be held a month earlier.

The tenure of the present gram panchayats will expire on August 22 and that of the ZPs, MPs, ZPTCs and MPTCs on July 22.

After several rounds of discussions with the State Election Commission, the Government has suggested this tentative schedule for the polls. Indications are that the State Election Commission may issue its notification on June 1, specifying the dates accepting the Government recommendation.
