Hyderabad: Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet recorded a 11-run win against HPS, Ramanthapur in the Maa Cable Challenge Cup inter-schools cricket tournament here on Tuesday. Batting first, HPS, Begumpet scored 130 for five and in reply, HPS, Ramanthapur was bundled out for 119. Rahul (46 not out, 2x4, 4x6) was the top scorer. The scores: St. Patrick's High School 109 for nine (Rewanth Sai 66, Dilip three for eight) lost to St. Andrews HS `B' 113 for one (Sumanth 46 not out, Vinay Rao 31 not out). HPS, Begumpet 130 for five (Sushruth 34, Anuraj Joel Raj 32 not out) bt HPS, Ramanthapur 119 (Rahul 46 not out, Manoj three for seven). Gowtham Model School 130 for seven (Srikar 35 not out) bt St. Paul's 64 (Rohit five for 10). Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Jubilee Hills 140 for six (R.C. Ratul 58 not out, M.B. Charan 30) bt Boys Town 133 (Md. Akbar 60, Talha Bahmeshan 32, Abhinav three for 30).
Reddy for Manipal
Prof. P.Chinappa Reddy, advisor to the State Government (Sports & Physical Education), will be the guest of honour at the International Conference on Physical Education & Sports Sciences to be held in Manipal from April 27 to 30, according to a release. About 550 delegates will attend the conference, which will deliberate on 130 scientific papers. Reddy, who is also the president of the National Association of Physical Education & Sports Sciences, will also be felicitated during the above conference.
MCH camps opened
The 37-day, long annual summer coaching camps, organised by Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, were formally inaugurated by Mayor of Hyderabad Teegala Krishna Reddy here on Tuesday. The Mayor reiterated the objectives of the mega-show, which features about 60000 trainees in 650 playgrounds in 50 disciplines. "Our primary aim is to provide the boys and girls during the coaching camps to teach them basics of the games and urged the parents to send their children in large numbers for the camps" he remarked. Earlier, G. Subash Chanderji, deputy mayor, MCH, D. Mohan, ex-chairman, standing committee, M. Shankar Yadav, corporator, Sultan Bazar Division, L.Venkatram Reddy, APOA secretary, graced the occasion. S.R. Prem Raj, Director of Sports (MCH), welcomed.
10K Road Races
Hyderabad District Athletic Association will organise the Hyderabad 10K road races at the Osmania University on April 30 from 6 a.m. Competitions will be held for men and women in 6km and for boys and girls in the age groups of 10 to 16 years in 3km. The top three places in each category will be given special incentives. Spot entries will be accepted. For details, call 9246529013.
Summer camps
St. Paul's Residential School (Shamirpet) and Jai Bhagawathi Cricket Club, an affiliated unit of Hyderabad Cricket Association, will organise annual summer coaching camps at the school premises from May 4. SAAP gesture
In a welcome gesture, the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh said that the recent benefits announced after the board meeting for the consolidated coaches (recruited in 1993 and 1998) will also be extended to all those part-time coaches appointed till 2003, a release said. This effectively means that these coaches will also be entitled for a pay hike of Rs. 2,000 each.
Softball trials
The Hyderabad District Softball Association will organise selection trials for boys and girls (under-18) on April 28 from 7 a.m. at the Vivek Vardhani College grounds here. The district team to take part in the junior inter-District championship in Karimnagar from May 3 to 5 will be picked during the trials. Interested candidates can contact K. Shobhan, coach, at the venue.
SBH Corporate Cup
State Bank of Hyderabad Corporate Cup cricket tournament, organised by Dravyansh Corporate Cricket & Sports Organisers, will be held from May 20 during weekends. Shooting camps
Rifle Association of Andhra Pradesh, in coordination with Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, will organise summer coaching camp in air rifle and air pistol events at the SAAP shooting range in Central University and the NTR Pavilion grounds (Indira Park) from April 28. Amritpal triumphs
Amitpal Singh emerged the winner in the Medi Konduri Krishna Murthy memorial AP State open chess tournament, organised by the Dronacharya Academy and sponsored by Sreemitra Townships Pvt. Ltd., here. The top-seed scored six points after settling for a draw with G.V. Srinivas, former joint-winner in the National rapid chess, in the final round. Special prizes were given to Varun and Hinduja Reddy (under-10), Sumanth Kumar and Naga Haritha Devi (under-12) boys and girls sections respectively. Final placings: 1. Amitpal Singh; 2. P.V.V.
