Tibetans take out procession

Mysore: Nearly 500 Tibetans took out a procession in the city to mark the 17th birthday celebrations of the 11th Panchen Lama who is in Chinese custody and demanded his release.

Members of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and the Tibetan Women's Association said that Gendhun Chokyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama was the youngest political prisoner in the world. The Chinese took him into custody when he was barely six years old, they said. The Tibetan community members said that the Chinese Government had recently introduced Gylatsen Norbu as the 11th Panchen Lama during the first international Buddhist Conference held in Beijing.
