MYSORE: Nearly 3,000 pre-university college lecturers, who were on valuation duty in Mysore, boycotted work for over an hour on Tuesday and staged a demonstration seeking implementation of their demands. They withdrew their boycott after senior officials in the PU Board promised that their demands would be met. The lecturers were seeking enhancement of daily allowance from Rs. 200 at present to Rs. 300 and local allowance from Rs. 30 to Rs. 80 besides increasing the valuation allowance from Rs. 8 to Rs. 12. Lecturers staged demonstrations in front of their respective valuation centres. Karnataka State Government Lecturers Association vice-president Meti Mudiyappa told The Hindu that the lecturers had withdrawn their boycott following assurance from the Joint Director (Evaluation) PU Board, Mahalingam. He said that the Joint Director had promised to meet all the demands by April 27, and that the new allowance would come into effect from this year. In Mysore, valuation of second PU answer scripts is taking place in Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Maharaja's College, Mahajana College and Sharada Vilas College. In all around 3,000 lecturers are involved in valuation duty in Mysore city.
