TUMKUR: Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Chandrashekar Patil will inaugurate a two-day State-level "Kavya Kammata'' (symposium of poets) here from May 2. Kalpataru, a forum of cultural organisations in Tumkur district, will organise the programme in association with Department of Kannada and Culture. The Kannada Book Authority, the Kannada Sahitya Academy and the Kannada Sahitya Parishat will support the effort. "Nature's Lap", a coconut and arecanut plantation at Yellapura, near here, on Madhugiri Road (off Gokula Mills), is the venue for the meet. Sessions will be held in the shade of palm trees, with no dais or pandal. The forum has conducted over 1,000 literary programmes in the past year, and they were aimed at popularising Kannada literature and introducing poets to the common people. Seventy-two poets have registered their names to attend the "Kavi Goshti'' in the afternoon on May 2. Artistes from Hospet, Bellary district, will render folksongs. The "Bangalore Women Veeragase Tanda" will perform. The Rajappa Dalavayi group will enact a play, "Chhosjjoo Albert'', written by SiddagangaiahHolatal. On May 3, Lakshman Das, a member of Karnataka Janapada Academy, will render "Ranga Geetegalu''. Those who are interested in attending the programme may contact T.M. Swamy, C.H. Maridevaru or S.M. Bhaskarachar for details (phone: 9448173840; 0816-2214842; 0816-2254087).
