KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Press Club conducted a meet-the-candidate programme for the contestants of the Vadakara Assembly constituency on Tuesday. The LDF candidate M.K. Premnath of the Janata Dal, UDF candidate Ponnarath Balakrishnan of the Indian National Congress and the BJP candidate P.M. Ashokan participated in the programme. They highlighted the respective development agenda to be undertaken by them in the constituency. Mr. Premnath claimed that the sitting MLA C.K. Nanu, and former MLA Chandrasekharan had ushered in development in the constituency. Mr. Premnath said his priorities would be employment generation, uplifting the traditional sectors of the region such as handloom, coir and aromatic crops. Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine, and `Kalaripayattu,' the martial art form, will be given due importance and promoted. Coastal area development and enterprises for manufacturing value-added products from coconut will be the other areas of focus, he said. Mr. Balakrishnan promised to develop the constituency that lagged behind in many sectors. Mr. Ashokan said, if he were elected, the overall development of Vadakara would be his priority.
