Pawar agrees to YSR's suggestions

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has agreed in principle with the suggestions made by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to modify the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme.

In a letter addressed to Dr. Reddy recently, Mr. Pawar said that most of the "valuable" suggestions made by him have been included in the draft of the modified scheme. Finalisation of the scheme was under active consideration of the Government.

A press release issued by the Chief Minister's Office on Tuesday stated that Dr. Reddy had suggested modifications in the scheme to make it more farmer-friendly and useful at time of risk. Dr. Reddy reviewed the agricultural insurance scheme with senior officials.
