Hyderabad : The executive committee of the APCC at its meeting here on Tuesday decided to direct District Congress Committees to adopt a `select and elect' policy in the forthcoming panchayat elections and also arrive their own arrangements as far as the alliances were concerned. The hour-long meeting was chaired by APCC president K. Keshava Rao, and attended by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Member of Parliament N. Janardhan Reddy and Ministers -- B. Satyanarayana, M. Satyanarayana Rao, K. Ramakrishna and Mohd. Ali Shabbir. Party leaders agreed that unity was paramount for winning the elections. APCC plenary Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy reportedly asked the party to highlight the `welfare State concept of the Congress Government' in its campaign. Indiramma programme to provide a range of benefits to the poor in urban and rural areas, increased pension of Rs.200 each for widows, aged and handicapped and low interest rates on loans to SHGs were vote-catching slogans, he said. It was decided to hold the APCC plenary on May 14 to mark the completion of two years in office by the party.
Kisan meet
A `kisan meet' will be organised by the kisan cell of the party here on April 30.
