Calls for concerted effort at preventing AIDS

  • Station officers told to open history sheets against sex workers
  • Help sought from all sections to prevent AIDS
  • People in State revolting against Maoists, says the police official
  • Clarifies on the killing of innocents in Medak and Warangal districts

Rajahmundry : Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen has asked police officers to act firmly to check prostitution. He has asked station house officers to open history sheets against sex workers and all those connected to prostitution.

Participating in a workshop organised by Futures Group, `Avahan' programme of Melinda Gates Foundation and Swagathi intervention projects here on Tuesday, the DGP said: "It is time to expose those who are indulging in the immoral trafficking. Open history sheets against sex workers who are arrested and analyse the case, give identity card and send them to the nearest NGO for counselling as well as HIV/AIDS test.

On HIV prevention, the DGP asked police personnel, leaders of political parties and the public to help the Government in its endeavour. He said the department would review the police training curriculum for fresh recruits and revise the manual keeping in view the efforts to prevent AIDS.

    Clarifies on APCOCA

Later addressing a press conference, the DGP opined that there was no need for `Salva Judum' (anti-Maoist movement) in the State like in Chhattisgarh as people were revolting against Maoists voluntarily.

He said the department was getting Rs. 80 crores under security-related expenditure scheme and modernisation of police department in naxal-affected states by the Union Government.

"Revival of APCOCA is not an indication of increased factionalism in the State, particularly in Rayalaseema. It is aimed at those indulging in repeated faction feuds," he said.

About the police firing on common people in Medak and Warangal districts, the DGP said that those incidents occurred during exchange of fire between the police and Maoists and clarified that the police had no intention to kill anyone.
