MALAPPURAM: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan here on Tuesday criticised Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her statements against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala. "She speaks nonsense about the LDF in Kerala without considering the ties her party maintains at the Centre," Mr. Bhargavan said at a meet-the-press organised by the Malappuram Press Club. Describing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a full-blooded communal organisation, Mr. Bhargavan said the LDF would never seek their votes in any election. However, he said the front would accept the votes of the organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) even when keeping them at a distance because of their communal colours. He accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) of tying up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the coming elections. "The BJP will sell its votes to anyone for a price," he said. He singled out Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty and Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) leader K. Karunakaran as two politicians who stand for no values. "The IUML will grow only if it is saved from the clutches of Mr. Kunhalikutty," he said. The IUML is no longer a party of the ordinary people. It has become a party of the rich, Mr. Bhargavan said. The UDF, he said, will never make a comeback in this election.
