Court upholds Warangal ZP chief's removal

Legal Correspondent

Contravention of provisions of Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Act

HYDERABAD : A Division Bench of the High Court on Tuesday upheld the decision of the Government in removing Baswareddy from the post of Z.P. Chairman, Warangal.

The Bench was allowing the writ appeal filed by the State government against the order of the single Judge. It may be recalled that the State Government had alleged that while exercising his functions as Z.P. Chairman, Mr. Baswareddy violated the provisions of the AP Panchayat Raj Act and removed him after conducting the inquiry. When the removal was challenged a Single Judge of the High court directed the Government to furnish more documents and give time to Mr. Baswareddy to file appropriate reply and then only take the final decision regarding the removal. The State Government went in appeal and the Bench upheld the earlier action of the government in removing the Chairman.
