Over 20 herbarium plants and 60 potted variety are on display

CHENNAI: Plants that heal and leaves that provide energy and sustain life are the focus of the Herbal Plants Exhibition organised by the Botany Section of the Government Museum.

The dried specimen called the `Herbarium,' has helped researchers, students and scholars in identifying and knowing the floral wealth of southern India, says a brochure compiled by M.N. Pushpa, Curator, Botany Section of the Government Museum, and published by M.A. Siddique, Director of Museums.

Among the exhibits are Cycas Revoluta or `Madanakamappoo,' seeds that strengthen the body, Murraya Koenigii called `Karuveppilai,' leaves used for diarrhoea and dysentery and to arrest vomiting, Acalypha indica `Kuppaimeni,' leaves for treating skin disorders, Vishnugranthi `Evolvulus alsinoides,' for curing fever.

Over 20 herbarium plants and 60 potted plants are listed.

The exhibition will be on till May 2, except on April 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
