Hyderabad: Call it plain indifference or communication gap, construction of a balwadi in Sanjaynagar in Gowliguda has been hanging fire for the one year. An amount of Rs. 4 lakhs was sanctioned by the MCH a year ago. Even tenders were finalised. Yet, the work on the first floor couldn't commence as the Assistant Engineer (Works) of MCH allegedly failed to `mark out' work to the contractor. A team of officials led by Information Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir, who visited the community hall- cum-school as part of the Praja Patham on Tuesday, was surprised when locals complained about the slow pace of work. The school also had no power, as the electricity bill was not paid. Disciplinary action would be taken against the engineer if his negligence was proved, the Minister said. He asked MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju to ensure prompt payment of power bills of all balwadis in the city and restore power supply where it was disconnected.
MP's gesture
Mr. Shabbir, accompanied by Maharajgunj MLA M. Mukesh, went round different areas and listened to people's grievances. He announced sanction of Rs. 5 lakhs for completion of Savitri Kanya Patasala and asked the MCH Commissioner to give a matching grant. MP P. Madhu also announced Rs. 20 lakhs from his MPLAD funds. The Minister sanctioned monthly pension of Rs. 200 to a physically challenged girl Nirmala, whose mother died two days ago. At Gowliguda Chaman, he said a traffic island would be built and beautification work taken up. Mr. Shabbir assured that the Wakf land at Morram Basti would be protected. Collector Arvind Kumar informed that a case was pending in the High Court. The wakf land had to be properly demarcated as per the court directions. A permanent solution would be found to the problem and at the same time interests of those living there would be protected, the Minister said.
