MANGALORE: The Barke Police on Monday raided five video shops at Saibeen Complex here and seized 3,500 pirated VCDs, DVDs and MP3s of Hindi, Kannada, English and Telugu films. Of these, 19 VCDS contained pornographic material. The police arrested five persons in this connection. The accused are Razak, Abdul Hakeem and Shameer, all from the city, Althaf of Marakada in Mangalore taluk and Sharook of Suratkal in Mangalore taluk. The value of materials seized is estimated at Rs. 6.65 lakh. The Barke Police has registered five cases under the Copyrights Act 1957 and the IPC, a press release from B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, said.
Gunpowder seized
Personnel of the District Anti-Rowdy Squad have busted an illicit gunpowder-manufacturing unit at Karmika Colony at Shaktinagar here and arrested Haridas (36) in this connection. The police recovered nearly 736 kg of gunpowder and various implements used for its manufacture. The value of the gunpowder and other implements seized is estimated at Rs. 60,000.
