MEGA ARRANGEMENTS: Empty stands at the circus which was stalled due to lack of parking space at the Exhibition grounds. Photo: Mohd. Yousuf
HYDERABAD: Hiccups in the city have hit the slowly but surely fading away circus people for whom survival itself is an everyday battle. The Jumbo Circus was set to begin at Nampally Exhibition Grounds on April 22, but the curtains are yet to be lifted pending permission from traffic authorities. The circus set up its tents after obtaining permission from the Begumbazar police in terms of security and other necessities, but the circus management hit the parking roadblock. "We instructed them to recruit private security guards in order to avoid law and order problems, fire engine and first aid material for which, they accepted and we have cleared the permission and forwarded the file to the traffic authorities, it is no more pending with us," said Begumbazar Police Inspector K.Babu Rao. Each day maintaining the troop and the animals is taking a toll on the Jumbo Circus management. "We have to maintain 300 employees and animals and one cannot imagine the loss we incur each day. We have applied to the Traffic Additional Commissioner in this regard, who assured the issue would be cleared in a day or two," said Pavithran, Camp Manager, Jumbo Circus. The board on the gate at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds says the show has been postponed due to "permission problems".
