Visaka Industries awaits State's response

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Visaka Industries is still awaiting Government's response to its investment of Rs. 4.5 crores on the cricket stadium at Uppal. Responding to a question at a press conferenceheld to announce the company's annual financial results, G. Vivekanand, MD of Visaka Industries, on Tuesday said the company was yet to hear from the Government.

The company had given this amount to the Hyderabad Cricket Association as part of its total commitment of Rs. 6.5 crores as per the MoU with the Association.

Renamed

The stadium was then named as Visaka International Cricket Stadium.

But subsequently when the Government wanted to rename it after Rajiv Gandhi, the issue was amicably settled at the initiative of Labour Minister and president of Hyderabad Cricket Association G. Vinod a few months ago.

The pact

At the time of the settlement, . the Government promised to take care of Rs. 4.5 crores spent by the company. However, going by Mr. Vivekanand's response, the fate of this amount still hangs in balance.
