Better health through dance

DANCE WORKSHOPS are common during the vacation season but this one will be rather different. Dance therapist A.V. Satyanarayana, who is a bank officer when not dancing, will demonstrate at the Ravindra Kalakshetra on Saturday how the steps and hand gestures of classical dance can promote better health. He combines the movements of Kathak, Bharatanatyam and contemporary dance in his therapy.

Along with other treatment, dance therapy can help control ailments such as diabetes and reduce weight and make it easier for pregnant women during childbirth, he says. He has held demonstrations at several international medical conferences in India and overseas.
