`No spurt in viral fever cases'

Thiruvananthapuram: There has not been any spurt in the incidence of viral fever in the district this year, the District Health Administration has said. The district officials, who enquired into reports about a large number of viral fever cases coming to the out patient clinics in various Government hospitals, said that compared with previous years, the incidence of viral fever has been less this year. In 2004 April, 8,618 cases of viral fever were reported from the district and in 2005 April, 3,467 cases. This year, so far 3,299 cases of viral fever have been reported in the district. The viral fever being reported in the district is a result of the sudden change in climate, in the aftermath of summer showers, and the public should not panic, DMO E.K. Madhavan said here on Tuesday. — Staff Reporter

Woman succumbs to burns

Thiruvananthapuram: Suseela, 57, of Thirumala, who had been admitted with severe burns to Medical College Hospital on Monday evening, died on Tuesday. The Poojappura police suspected that Suseela had set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene on her. The body was handed over to the relatives after an inquest. A case of unnatural death has been registered.

Naval NCC camp

Thiruvananthapuram: The annual training Naval NCC camp, being conducted by No.1 Kerala Naval Unit NCC, Thiruvananthapuram, commences on Wednesday. The camp will be conducted at Kuzhivila UP School, Akkulam and Akkulam Boat House. The camp concludes on May 7. — Staff Reporter
