Plan for satellite township for industries

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A state-of-the-art industrial satellite township with integrated infrastructure facilities and residential facility for workers will come up on the outskirts of the city, Small Scale Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu said here on Tuesday.

Mr. Naidu told presspersons that after talks with representatives of the trade bodies such as the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Small Industries' Association, weavers' associations and gem and jewellery associations on Monday, he had realised that these sectors needed a conducive environment for development and growth.

There was demand for 40,000 acres of land for housing in this industrial township, and the Government had decided to facilitate the acquisition of 10,000 acres in the first phase. Although the location of the township is yet to be finalised, the areas under consideration are Devanahalli near the International Airport, Mysore Road, and a location near the Big Banyan Tree.
