dated April 27, 1956: Nehru opens Nepa Mills

Prime Minister Nehru has called upon the countrymen to work hard for achieving the goal of a socialistic pattern of society. It could not be achieved by merely shouting slogans. Mr. Nehru, who was declaring open India's first newsprint mill, Nepa Mills, at Nepanagar on April 26, said India now stood on the threshold of a great industrial revolution and only sheer hard work could give us the results. He exhorted the people to keep before them a clear picture of what they wanted this country to achieve as its goal. Referring to the Second Plan, Mr. Nehru said the need of the hour was more and more industries and if we were to have more and more industries, then we must have hundreds of skilled and technically trained men. He was of the opinion that the country should not import any article of daily necessity.
