Four injured in clash between DMK and AIADMK cadres

TAKING NO CHANCES: Paramilitary personnel providing security for the AIADMK candidate in the Nellithope constituency in Pondicherry on Wednesday.

PONDICHERRY: Four injured in a clash between the DMK and the AIADMK supporters at different places in Nellithope constituency during campaigning on Wednesday evening.

All the four injured have been admitted at the General Hospital and their condition is stated to be stable. While, Natarajan, Prabhu and Perumal belonging to the AIADMK received cut injuries on their head and leg, Saravanan the driver of the AIADMK candidate got injured in stone pelting.

According to police the incident happened when supporters of both the candidates were campaigning at Karamanikuppam at the same time. Both objected to the use of loudspeakers by others and it resulted in a verbal duel.

After a round of stone pelting by both the groups, one AIADMK supporter was attacked on the head with lethal weapons.

Subsequently, the cadres clashed near the Orleanpet police station and General Hospital.

Road roko

Meanwhile, the DMK cadres staged a road roko opposite the bus stand disturbing the traffic flow demanding police action against the AIADMK candidate. They withdrew the protest after assurance from the police that action would be taken. An attempt was made by the AIDMK cadres to stage road roko in Lenin Street but it was foiled by the police. Paramilitary forces have been deployed at different spots in Nellithope constituency to prevent any further clash.

This is the second time that cadres of both the parties clashed ever since the candidates were announced.
