Aurangabad (Maharashtra): Shivaji Salunke, a prisoner serving life imprisonment at the Open Jail of Paithan in Aurangabad district, has offered to donate his liver to the Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan, battling for his life at Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital. One of the three bullets fired by Mr. Mahajan's brother Pravin on April 22 has severely damaged Mr. Mahajan's liver. There were reports that he could undergo liver transplant, and the world's leading liver transplant specialist Mohd. Rela from London has been in Mumbai. In an application to the jail authorities on April 24, Salunke expressed his desire to donate his liver. According to the convict, who received a Maharashtra Government literary award for his poetry collection `Atmazad', the life of a politician like Pramod Mahajan was more important for the nation. Therefore, he was offering his liver. UNI
