MUMBAI: Vishvesh Sinha survived a blast from top seed Arvind Fernando to win his quarterfinal 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 for a place in the boys' under-14 singles semifinals of the Asia ranking tennis tournament at the Ranade Tennis Centre hardcourts. The National Tennis Academy (Gurgaon) trainee focussed on keeping the ball in play after losing the first three games in the decider, before bouncing back to overcome the higher-ranked Sri Lankan. The top seed from Sri Lanka paid a heavy price for concentration lapses, both players struggling due to humidity. The sixth seed will face off against Sumeet Shinde, a tougher rival who is improving with every outing. Unseeded Samip Mehta and second seed Jugal Marfatia will play the second semifinal. The girls under-14 quarterfinals in this MSLTA-organised event saw Kyra Shroff overcome fourth seed Likita Devraj in straight sets. Rashmi Teltumbde, Shweta Rana and Aishwarya Shrivastava, the first three seeds respectively in the main draw, won the semifinals slots as expected. The results (Indians unless specified): U-14 (quarterfinals): Boys: Vishvesh Sinha bt Arvind Fernando (SL) 6-4, 5-7, 6-3; Sumeet Shinde bt Shahbaaz Khan 6-2, 6-2; Samip Mehta bt Mohit Mayur 6-2, 6-4; Jugal Marfatia bt Pawan Surya 6-2, 6-3. Girls: Rashmi Teltumbde bt Ashwarya Agarwal 6-1, 6-4; Aishwarya Shrivastava bt Sharmada Balu 6-2, 6-1; Kyra Shroff bt Likita Devraj 6-3, 6-3; Shweta Rana bt Yamini Reddy 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
