GOOD COMPANY: People going through books at the book exhibition which was inaugurated in Shimoga on Wednesday.
SHIMOGA: President of the Shimoga district unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat D. Manjunath said here on Wednesday reading habit should be encouraged among children as nothing was a more intimate companion than a book. Inaugurating a five-day book exhibition at the Karnataka Sangha organised by Prism Books of Bangalore, he said it was true that the increasing importance of the electronic media had led to the impression that the pride of place being occupied by books in the dissemination of knowledge and information was being occupied by it [electronic media]. "But it is not true. Any good inspiring book enjoys as much patronage and support as it used to in the past," he said. Assistant Director of Information Rame Gowda, who was the chief guest, said that reading habit not only helped readers expand their knowledge but also developed their personality. Additional Superintendent of Police S.N. Siddramappa was present. Rajnish welcomed the gathering.
