DEHRA DUN: The Samajwadi Party has threatened to launch an agitation in the plains of Uttaranchal "if the Government does not stop discriminating against the State's plain districts in various welfare schemes". Announcing this here on Wednesday, the State president of the party, Ambrish Kumar, said it was a matter of great concern that the Tiwari Government had not released any funds for drought relief measures for the farmers of Hardwar and Udham Singh Nagar while huge amounts had been allocated for similar works in the hill districts. Mr. Kumar wanted Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari to immediately make public the facts and figures related to employment opportunities generated for the youth, acquisition of prime agricultural land and the number of industries set up by locals. The Government was acquiring prime agricultural land and selling it off at subsidised rates to big business houses having political connections while the people in the State were not able to buy even a hundred square yards of land to construct a house, he said, adding, "this is not fair and the Samajwadi Party will launch a movement against the negative attitude of the Government."
