Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM: Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), a deemed university, on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Northampton to facilitate exchange of teachers, research personnel and students, and to promote development of shared research activities and explore collaboration at course level.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Nick Boutle, Dean and Mark Wilkinson, Associate Dean (Development) of the School of Applied Sciences of the University and J. Sundeep Aanand, Pro-Chancellor, BIHER, and S. Renganathan, Chancellor. BIHER has already entered into MoUs with overseas educational institutions in the past, including one from the UK.

Mr. Nick Boutle said his university was located in Northampton, an important centre in the leather trade, and BIHER was among the few institutes to train students in leather technology and hoped this association would be mutually helpful.

Northampton University also played a very active role in coordinating with local and national governments on landfills and waste management, issues that were of crucial importance and research in the United Kingdom.

According to Mr. Renganathan, the MoU would be of immense use to students and faculty from BIHER who could take part in exchange programmes and other academic activities.
