Swamy condemns attack

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has condemned the "dastardly assassination attempt" on the Sri Lanka Army Chief by a suspected LTTE suicide-bomber. He warned politicians in South Asia that it is "suicidal to negotiate peace with such an organisation."

In a statement issued here, Dr. Swamy said: "To win over the democratic majority of Tamil people in the island, Sri Lanka should ... unilaterally announce the adoption of a federal Constitution to replace its present unitary and failed Constitution. India can then seriously cooperate with Sri Lanka to eradicate the LTTE terrorist menace."
